The minimum you need to know
There is internal peace within Hungary. But Reuters reported in October 2024 on street protests there about state run communication. The Viktor Orbán administration has been office since 2010, and enjoys uncontested majority popular support acknowledged by demonstrators. Prime Minister Orban holds the top position in government, above the ceremonially appointed President. But street rallies have called for the minority party called TISZA to receive more air time. Freedom of expression has been protected by the government, which has tolerated the rallies. People peacefully protested several times. So the issue seems mostly to be about opportunities for media exposure. For instance, current minority leader Peter Magyar requested that state run television air one of his speeches unedited.
Hungary became a member of the European Union in 2004. The country is at peace with all surrounding states. But it’s aligned with neighboring Ukraine, and is at risk of becoming drawn across a small border into the Ukraine- Russia confrontation. Hungary has expressed a significant desire for peace in the region.

Hungary received a considerable number of refugees from Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Like other European Union member states in similar situations, Hungary has very substantial humanitarian needs, and tolerates a small amount of social strife. But there is a compassionate and stable government that influences very ethically by patterning peace (excellently) at the United Nations.
