The minimum you must know
Slovakia is a thinly populated and high altitude non-coastal country in Eastern Europe with five bordering nations, including ones that are important to Ukraine. The are Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Hungary and Czechia. Slovaki joined the European Union and consequently NATO alliance in 2004. Slovakia is mountainous but perhaps still an important trading and supply route from Europe into Ukraine as a result.
Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia, which was occupied by Germany during the second global conflict. The Jewish population there did not survive. The country was liberated from occupation by Russia in the 1940s. Slovakia had a "Velvet Revolution" in 1989 from communist rule in preference for democracy. The country is a valued member of the European Union today.
