The minimum you must know
The Czech Republic is an elevated non-coastal country (sometimes called Czechia) that's situated between Germany, Poland and Slovakia that was heavily influenced for decades by Russia. During the first global conflict in 1914, then-Czechoslovakia was the only country in Central and Eastern Europe to remain a democracy with a parliament elected by the people. But Czechia later became occupied by Germany in the second global conflict (in the 1940s), and liberated and turned into a socialist republic by the Soviet Union. Consequently, the country became a peaceful communist nation around 1948. The country ultimately returned to democracy after a "Velvet Revolution" in 1989 that divided the country into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, both of which became European Union members and consequently members of the NATO security alliance with the United States.
