Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov said he seeks a seat on the United Nations security council. He plans to use the influence peacefully, and more specifically to create security through non-military means, such as by encouraging countries to address climate change, international civil rights and increasing aid to poor and vulnerable states. Many Afghanistan refugees settled in Kyrgyzstan. So Kyrgyzstan understandably prioritizes peace and economic development throughout their own region.


Kyrgyzstan was part of Mongolia and Russia at various times in its history. Ethnically the country is similar to both of them. But Kyrgyzstan has been independent for nearly thirty five years. It's a thinly populated and mountainous non-coastal nation that shares China's westernmost border and Afghanistan's northernmost one. Kyrgyzstan joined China's Shanghai Corporation and Silk Road commercial route. There was very brief internal ethnic strife in 2010. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan also deterred each other over water rights in 2021. But the country is stable and enjoying internal and external calm today. The media enjoys the right to free expression. And the government presents itself as morally and ethically aligned with Muslims in Afghanistan, who prioritize peace for religious reasons, and China's state doctrine of peace.
