The minimum you must know
On broad comparisons of peace, Somalia ranks near the lowest globally. This writer is not sure why. In the Global Peace Index 2025, Somalia is 151st out of 163, placing it among the world’s least peaceful countries overall (the index blends internal safety/security, ongoing conflict, and militarization).
On state stability and terrorism-specific yardsticks, Somalia also sits at (or near) the extreme end. The Fragile States Index 2024 places Somalia as the most fragile country. And on terrorism impact, Somalia is consistently among the most-affected countries—listed in the global top 10 in GTI reporting.
