The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal signed friendship treaties with India and China shortly after joining the United Nations in the 1950s, continuing the country's peaceful tradition.

Nepal is a non-coastal country situated between India and China in the Himalayas mountains, and bordering Tibet, which China claims at its own but that security competitors consider independent. Nepal is nevertheless in a very peaceful location between countries unlikely to intervene militarily because of their treaties and because of the peaceful Buddhist religion practiced in the area.

Nepal was never colonized. But there was reportedly an internal civil conflict in the 1990s that ended in the 2000s. Also democracy was suspended there several times by the ruling party. So the country's reputation for peace, freedom and democracy isn't without incident.

Nepal's location makes Indian - Chinese relations very important to the Nepalese people. India and China have the best relationship in the history of the countries. Consequently, Nepal is at peace, and well positioned to only improve relations with other nations.
