The minimum you must know
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a peaceful island nation near the Florida coast of the United States. There are two islands that make up the vast majority of the land, called Nassau and Paradise Island, which are commonly visited by U.S. tourists. And there are around three thousand tiny lesser known surrounding ones. The Bahamas are around a hundred miles form Cuba, and calling for an end to the U.S. embargo there. But the Bahamas are closely aligned with the United States and Europe.
The Bahamas were colonized along with the founding United States by Christopher Columbus. The islands did not gain independence during the U.S. revolution. The Bahamas instead stayed British, separating hundreds of years later in the 1970s.
The Bahamas participate in a diplomatic framework called the "Caribbean Community" but has opted out of their single market trading relationship. That's understandable because the Bahamas enjoys free and completely open trading with Europe and the United States, who obviously support the country's ongoing development.
