The minimum you must know


Mauritania is almost the farthest western African country and to the south of Morocco. It was colonized by the French until 1960, when they were deterred away by successive revolutions. Today the country is a newly burgeoning Islamic democracy, at peace with all other countries. However, Mauritania seeks stability throughout Africa, and calls for peace in neighboring countries such as Libya, Djibouti and Yemen.
