Senegal is the furthest western coastal country in Africa named for a river along the northern and eastern border. The country is geographically small but densely populated with approaching twenty million residents. Senegal gained independence from France around 1960 but did not develop afterwards as fast as the rest of Africa. In fact, the country has a reputation for being one of the less developed nations in the area. However, the government seems very well educated and advanced from their presentations at the United Nations every year. So this writer wonders if the country is more advanced than is known abroad. The government of Senegal both patterned peace and called for peace within Africa and globally. The government emphasized equal treatment for all.


There is concern for Sahel, where there has been civil conflict in Central Africa between the Sahara Desert and Sudan.
