Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a densely populated non-aligned Caribbean island nation near Martinique and Barbados. The population initially grew through African slave trade while it was a British colony for two hundred years until 1979. The majority of the people there are consequently Catholic or Christian. Today the country has well developed industries including agriculture and tourism. However, the population remains underemployed. The islands also tolerate a considerable number of hurricanes and volcanoes, and consequently encounter occasional humanitarian needs that can helpful be fulfilled by other countries.
